1. Select insulators
The live insulator string should take the second insulator from the top, the middle one, and the second insulator from the bottom; Non charged insulator strings should take three insulators from any position.
2. Prepare solvents
Suggest using deionized water, namely distilled water, or drinking purified water, with a conductivity of less than 10 μ S/cm.
When the water intake is too low, it can cause the soluble salts in the pollution to not be completely dissolved. Suggest using one of the following two methods for water intake.
Method 1: For single piece ordinary suspension insulators, it is recommended to use 300ml of water. When the surface area of the tested insulator (including the unit skirt section of the suspension insulator and the pillar insulator) is different from that of the ordinary suspension insulator, the water consumption can be increased or decreased proportionally according to the size of the area. The specific water consumption is shown in the table below:

Method 2: Calculate the total water consumption by using 0.2ml of water per square centimeter of surface area.
3. Wipe off surface dirt
It is recommended to use clean filter paper, cotton balls, or gauze to wipe the surface of the insulator.
Taking gauze and distilled water as examples, the wiping steps are as follows:
1) Take two pieces of gauze and immerse them in the distilled water prepared above, then squeeze the water dry with clean tweezers and remove it.
2) Use the first piece of wet gauze to wipe the insulator until the surface of the insulator is basically clean.
3) Use a second piece of wet gauze to wipe the insulator until the surface of the insulator is completely clean.
Attention: When removing wet wipes, it is advisable not to drip water to ensure that the solution does not leak during wiping, otherwise there may be deviations in the test results.
4. Dissolution
Place the sampling towel contaminated with insulator contamination into the prepared deionized water, stir thoroughly, and dissolve the contamination in the deionized water to obtain the contamination solution.
Note: Undissolved substances are non soluble substances and have no impact on the test results.
5. Testing
Insert the electrode into the solution and wait for 2 minutes before taking a reading. The intelligent salt density measuring instrument for insulators is equipped with a calculation formula for the equivalent salt density of insulators, which can directly read the salt density value.
Notes:
1) It is advisable to insert more than one-third of the electrode length into the solution, as too short will affect temperature measurement.
2) During testing, it is not advisable to let the electrode come into contact with the cup wall to avoid affecting the conductivity and temperature values.
6. Result storage and printing
After the above steps are completed, this measurement is complete. Press the instrument mouse to enter the storage and printing interface, and refer to section 6.3 for the operation method.
