I Test principle

       The cable fault test is based on the principle that the electric wave will produce reverse direction when it encounters the line impedance nonuniformity during transmission. According to the theory of transmission lines, each line has its own characteristic impedance ZC, which is determined by the structure of the line, and has nothing to do with the length of the line. On a uniform transmission line, the input impedance at any point is equal to the characteristic impedance. If the load connected to the terminal is equal to the characteristic impedance, the current wave or voltage wave sent by the line will be transmitted along the line, and the terminal will be absorbed by the load without reverse. When the impedance at any point of the line is not equal to ZC, the electric wave will produce total reflection or partial reflection at that point.
