Technical Analysis of ZXDN-3B Portable Energy Meter Calibrator

Time:2026-07-17 Number:3

Abstract

On-site verification of electric energy meters and low-voltage metering transformers is a core daily task for power grid operation, metrology inspection and marketing technical teams. Traditional separate calibrators for energy meters and transformer ratio testers bring heavy carrying workload, complicated wiring and low field operation efficiency. The ZXDN-3B intelligent energy meter calibrator integrates energy meter error calibration and low-voltage metering device testing functions into one portable unit, covering full-scenario on-site measurement demands including meter error detection, wrong wiring diagnosis, CT transformation ratio testing, harmonic analysis and multi-function meter data reading. This paper systematically elaborates its functional design, core technical indicators, measurement principles and engineering application advantages, providing technical reference for power metrology technicians.

1. Product Overview

ZXDN-3B is a high-end integrated measuring instrument in the company’s electric energy measurement product line. It breaks the boundary between single energy meter calibrator and low-voltage metering device tester, and realizes multi-dimensional detection of complete low-voltage metering loops. Its core built-in functions cover energy meter error verification, abnormal wiring judgment, current transformer transformation ratio measurement, meter data reading, voltage & current harmonic analysis, waveform capture and clock error calibration.

Different from bench-type calibration equipment limited to laboratory use, this device is designed for field mobile operation, with wide-range adaptive power supply, lightweight body and abundant peripheral expansion interfaces, which fully matches the complex working conditions of power distribution station, residential meter box and industrial user metering point inspection.

2. Core Functional Characteristics

2.1 Human-Machine Interaction & Real-Time Parameter Measurement

The equipment adopts high-brightness, high-resolution TFT color LCD display, which can clearly display all field measured parameters with rich information volume. It supports real-time synchronous measurement of single-phase and three-phase electrical parameters: voltage, current, apparent power, phase angle, active/reactive power factor and grid frequency, realizing one-screen overall monitoring of metering loop operating status.

2.2 Full-Coverage Energy Meter Calibration Capacity

It supports error calibration of meter body and terminal, and can complete inspection of single-phase/three-phase electronic and induction-type active & reactive energy meters. Three pulse input modes are reserved: manual pulse input, photoelectric sampling input and electrical pulse input, adapting to all mainstream energy meter pulse output forms on the market.

For current transformer testing, optional 100A/500A/1000A clamp current sensors are configured to directly measure CT transformation ratio. Technicians can rapidly identify typical hidden faults in CT secondary circuits: open circuit, poor contact, internal inter-turn short circuit, and inconsistency between nameplate rated ratio and actual transformation ratio.

2.3 Harmonic & Waveform Analysis Capability

With built-in high-speed sampling chip, the calibrator can measure the 2nd to 51st harmonic content of single/three-phase voltage and current, and capture real-time waveforms of A/B/C three-phase voltage and current. In modern power grids with a large number of nonlinear loads such as inverters and frequency converters, this function provides effective data support for harmonic loss analysis and metering abnormal fault tracing.

2.4 Powerful Data Storage & Background Software System

Equipped with large-capacity memory card, the device can store more than 10,000 groups of field calibration data of energy meters, and supports U-disk data export. All measurement data can be permanently stored without manual deletion to ensure the traceability of metrological verification records.

The matched background management software can realize seamless docking with power marketing systems, featuring friendly UI, simple operation and convenient version upgrade. Original test data cannot be modified artificially; the software integrates data statistics, multi-condition query and automatic report printing modules, and the report template can be customized according to power enterprise standard requirements.

2.5 Multi-Function Meter Data Reading & Clock Calibration

It can read complete historical records of multi-function electronic energy meters, including cumulative electricity reading, voltage loss event records and real-time clock data. Supporting clock error calibration, broadcast timing and command timing of energy meters (synchronized with the calibrator’s internal standard clock source), it also realizes reading and setting of meter demand register parameters, demand period and demand value error detection.

2.6 Field-Oriented Practical Auxiliary Functions

Small current detection function: convenient for wiring inspection after initial meter installation and no-load line troubleshooting;

Optional barcode & 2D code scanning module: external USB/wireless scanner can quickly read meter asset number and seal number, greatly improving field data entry efficiency;

Self-correction of clamp transformers: after replacing different specification clamp sensors, factory return calibration is unnecessary, which reduces maintenance cost and downtime;

Abundant wireless expansion interfaces: Bluetooth, WIFI and GPS modules are optional, supporting remote data transmission, positioning of verification sites and wireless interaction with mobile terminals.

2.7 Wide-Adaptation Power Supply Design

The working power supply range reaches AC 57V ~ 450V, and three power supply modes are selectable: test line power supply, external adapter power supply and built-in battery power supply, with online charging function available. It can work normally under low-voltage user terminal and high-voltage side PT output voltage conditions, eliminating the trouble of carrying additional power supply equipment.
